2歳でドラムを始める。

7歳でニューヨークへ転居後、9歳にしてハーレムのジャズクラブでセッションに参加。幼少期から本場の現場で鍛えられ、グルーヴと音楽観を体得する。

 

1995年、自身のバンドを結成。

CBGB、The Knitting Factoryをはじめとするニューヨークの名門ライブハウスで数多くのステージを重ねる。

 

1998年にはShania Twainと共にMadison Square Gardenで共演。

 

映画『FAME』の舞台として知られるFiorello H. LaGuardia High School在学中にワーナーミュージック・ジャパンよりメジャーデビュー。

アルバム「Gates」「Jumbo Shrimp」をリリース。

 

2004年よりマンハッタンで教会のメインドラマーを務め、

同時期にGary Bartz、Hiram Bullock、Souliveらと共演。

 

2005年から数年間、Mariah CareyプロデュースのR&B女性ボーカルグループ『ALLURE』のミュージック・ディレクター兼ドラマーとして活動。

同時期にニューヨークのHIP HOPグループ『AMOUNT BOYZ』のドラマーとしても活動する。

 

2006年、ニューヨーク・オールスター・ゴスペルのドラマーに抜擢され、Madison Square Gardenで3日間の公演を務める。

 

ニューヨークのリアルな音楽シーンで確固たる評価を得る。

2009年より拠点を東京へ移す。

MISIAバンドに加入。

2011年にはジャズピアノの巨匠Hank Jonesと共演。

同時期よりEXILEのドラマーとして活動を広げる。

 

2016年よりスガシカオバンドに参加。

同年よりEXILE ATSUSHI率いるRED DIAMOND DOGSのメンバーとして活動。

 

2022年より赤西仁のサポートドラマーとして参加。

 

2024年には小林武史プロデュース公演で桜井和寿（Mr.Children）、スガシカオと共演。

同年末には¥ellow Bucksの凱旋ライブにドラマーとして参加。

 

その後、自身プロデュースのジャムバンド「Jam Joint」を結成。

2026年にはJam Jointとして初のリーダーアルバムをリリース予定。

同年、TAMA主催ワールドクリニックツアーに参加。

 

HIPHOPからJAZZ、R&B、POPS、ROCKまでジャンルを越え、現在進行形のプロジェクトに次々と参加。

 

シーン最前線で鳴り続けるドラマー。

圧倒的なグルーヴと、楽曲の核心を射抜くダイナミクス。

FUYU

 

FUYU began playing drums at the age of two.

After relocating to New York at seven, he was already performing in Harlem jazz clubs by eight—immersed in the pulse of the city’s live music scene from an early age.

 

In 1992, he joined a band with his schoolmates, performing extensively at legendary venues such as CBGB and The Knitting Factory.

In 1998, he shared the stage with Shania Twain at Madison Square Garden.

 

While attending the renowned Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts—famously depicted in the film FAME—he made his major debut under Warner Music Japan, releasing the albums Gates and Jumbo Shrimp.

 

From 2004, he served as the principal drummer at a Manhattan church while collaborating with artists including Gary Bartz, Hiram Bullock, and Soulive.

 

Between 2005 and the late 2000s, he performed as drummer for the R&B vocal group ALLURE, produced by Mariah Carey.

During this period, he also worked with the New York hip-hop group AMOUNT BOYZ.

 

In 2006, he was selected to perform at a major New York gospel event, playing for three consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden.

 

Through these experiences, he established a respected presence within New York’s authentic live music community.

Relocating to Tokyo in 2009, FUYU quickly became one of the most sought-after drummers on Japan’s major stages.

He joined MISIA’s band and later expanded his work as drummer for EXILE.

 

In 2016, he began performing with Suga Shikao’s band and became a member of RED DIAMOND DOGS led by EXILE ATSUSHI.

 

Since 2022, he has served as support drummer for Jin Akanishi.

 

In 2024, he appeared in a concert produced by Takashi Kobayashi alongside Kazutoshi Sakurai (Mr.Children) and Suga Shikao.

Later that year, he performed as drummer at ¥ellow Bucks’ homecoming live show.

 

He subsequently formed his own jam band, Jam Joint.

In 2026, Jam Joint is set to release its first leader album, and FUYU will participate in TAMA’s World Clinic Tour.

 

Moving seamlessly between HIP-HOP, JAZZ, R&B, POPS, and ROCK, FUYU continues to contribute to forward-thinking projects across genres.

 

A drummer who remains at the forefront of the scene—

recognized for his commanding groove and dynamic precision that cuts to the core of every song.

On stage and in the studio alike, he continues to shape the sound of the present.
